America’s Most Beloved Thanksgiving Events 2023

Thanksgiving, a holiday that has long been celebrated in the U.S., stands as a testament to the nation's collective spirit of gratitude, reflection, and family bonding. Central to this celebration is not just the iconic feast but the shared experiences that stitch together memories for years to come.

The joy of doing things together, from watching the much-anticipated Thanksgiving football games to attending famous parades, epitomizes the essence of the holiday. Many relish the experience of ice skating at Central Park or participating in a Turkey Trot for charity, as these have become integral traditions for numerous families. As the old adage suggests, it is often not about the destination, but the journey – and in the context of Thanksgiving, it's about the shared journey with loved ones. Whether it's tuning into games, partaking in meals, swapping stories, or simply basking in shared laughter while watching a parade, these traditions are an intricate part of Thanksgiving.

But which Thanksgiving traditions do Americans look forward to the most? And which ones would they like to experience, if given the choice? Recognizing the importance of these shared experiences and traditions, and in a bid to understand contemporary sentiments, we at Mixbook conducted a survey to tap into the pulse of 3,000 Americans and uncover the 2023 experiences people would most like to experience this Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving, a quintessential American holiday, is steeped in a rich tradition of history and sentiment. The reasons people across the U.S. cherish family traditions and events during this time are manifold.

1. Historical Significance: The roots of Thanksgiving trace back to the early Pilgrims and the indigenous Wampanoag people. The commemoration of their shared feast symbolizes unity and gratitude. Over time, this event has evolved, yet Americans continue to value this historical connection, viewing it as a reminder of shared experiences and the nation's foundation.

2. Reconnection and Togetherness: In an increasingly fast-paced world, Thanksgiving offers a unique opportunity for families and friends to pause, gather, and reconnect. For many, this is a rare occasion where extended family members come together, bridging distances both geographical and emotional.

3. Expression of Gratitude: At its core, Thanksgiving is about expressing thanks. This tradition offers a formal occasion to reflect on the year's blessings and challenges, fostering a sense of gratitude and perspective. This collective reflection serves to strengthen bonds and shared experiences among participants.

4. Cultural Rituals and Identity: The rituals and traditions, whether it's the turkey roast, the parade, football games, or the act of giving back, provide a sense of identity and continuity. These rituals are often passed down through generations, embedding a sense of belonging and identity among family members.

5. The Joy of Giving: Thanksgiving, for many, is also about giving back. Volunteering at shelters or organizing community dinners are ways in which people embrace the spirit of the holiday. This act of service amplifies the true essence of Thanksgiving, emphasizing community, compassion, and connection.

In essence, Thanksgiving traditions and events are not just about the historical significance or the grand feasts; they are an amalgamation of shared memories, gratitude, reconnection, and the warmth of familiarity. These traditions, deep-seated in American culture, provide a framework for people to express their love, gratitude, and togetherness, making Thanksgiving a beloved and anticipated event across the nation.
