Top Design Trends for 2018
Our design team took a trip to the 2018 Creativation conference for a sneak peek at the latest and greatest trends in the design community. We often pull from these fresh finds and incorporate them into our product themes throughout the year. Here are the top 5 design trends we discovered.
Marbling
The hottest new trend in the creative world is marbling! We’re seeing both subtle marble and brightly bold marble happening this year. There are so many different ways to achieve this look; acrylic paint pours, resin pours, suminagashi, FolkArt’s new marbling paints, DecoArt’s Pouring Medium, and EnviroTex Resins are all emerging craft products entering the market to easily create sophisticated and beautiful art.
Llamas
Llamas, llamas everywhere! We love all the llamas which are the cozier, more cuddly cousin of the unicorn. We saw funky llamas, cutesy llamas, and fancy dressed up llamas. They are the perfect new iconic animal and fit well with the natural, light and airy trend we are seeing in 2018.
Pompoms/tassels
The woven style is also making its reemergence in the design trends of 2018. This trend includes macrame, pom poms, and tassels. Pompoms are fun, colorful accents that give a bolder playful feeling. We’re also seeing plant hangers and macrame wall decor to welcome a natural textured boho feel to any room. The Craft Yarn Council are the leading yarn related crafters out there and teach classes at a variety of Michael's stores.
All Things Magical
The magic isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. This is a trend that carried over from last year and is still going on strong. Rainbow colors, glitter, and all the magical creatures bring a childlike sense of wonder and joy to the creative world. Seems like Mixi is not the only unicorn out there.
Rustic/Natural
Lastly, the natural almost unfinished trend of 2018. This year is going to be full of a light and airy vibe paired with the cozy comfort of home. We are all about what feels like home. We’re embracing unpainted woods, natural vibes, plants, florals, and the handwritten, handmade touch.
