How to Make Flower Crowns
How to Make Flower Crowns
Happy spring season! When you think of spring, flowers immediately come to mind. Be your own queen of the season with this easy flower crown DIY.
The material you are going to need are:
Supplies
1-2 bunches of larger faux flowers
A bunch of smaller filler faux flowers, floral wire.
Jewelry or regular pliers (helpful and will make it easier to pull the wire taut)
Step 1
When picking out flowers for a flower crown DIY pick two sets of flowers, some with bigger ones that will be the main focus of the crown, and smaller ones for filler in between the larger flowers. We like smaller bunches that also have lots of leaves, as this helps fill-in and make the crown look full.
For the bigger flowers, try not to pick ones that are too big, unless you are going for a big statement crown! The best way to determine a good size is to pick ones where the bigger flowers are smaller than your fist.
Step 2
Setting up the crown, cut each flower at the longest point from the stem. You want as much length as possible, to help build a stable and not so flimsy flower crown. Once they are all cut, lay the cut flowers in the shape of a circle. Pick one point to be the front, and arrange the flowers so they all face towards that point. Lay your bigger flowers out first and then use the smaller ones to fill in the gaps between the larger flowers. The back of the crown will be mostly leaves and stems.
Step 3
Once you’ve decided on the layout, cut the floral wire into 12 in pieces and weave it around the stems. Use the pliers to pull the wire tight. The tighter the wrap, the more secure the crown will be. Try to avoid wrapping the leaves or flower petals. Work from the back left towards the front center and then take the back right and wrap it to the front center. Once you have two solid pieces, measure it on your head to know how much space to leave in the back. Then connect the two halves by wrapping the wire around the back and cutting any excess stems that don’t tuck easily.
Step 4
For the front, odd numbers tend to work in your favor here. Three bigger flowers in the front will look more natural than two big ones. Add a third flower if you need to by creating an extension of one side and wrapping it with wire. Then connect the two halves in the front by wrapping wire around the base of the two flowers.
Finally, hold the crown up, see if any of the smaller flowers or foliage pieces look out of place and secure them down with more wire. Fluff any of the flowers that are tucked or bend them at the base of the flower outward so their face is perpendicular to the base of the crown.
